I remember that morning when the siren rang
The cloudless sky could not predict such tragedy
The summer sun, nothing compared to the heat
that would put our city in great calamity
A sudden flash of light was followed by a deafening blast
Windows shattered before flames rose from the ground
The blast of air was so intense, it knocked me off my feet
I wish it was a dream, this grim reality
No signs of life in all this madness
Will I too meet my demise or shall I live and die alone?
The cloudless sky had turned to black
A shadow cast over the noble sun
So many lives in fear, pain and grief
The cruelty of war
When I crawled out of the rubble, that’s when I saw
the corpses scattered on the ground in front of me
Covered in the ashes of their brothers and sisters
What could have caused such inhumanity?
I was terrified as I couldn’t find my family
A crushing fear told me they too had died
That’s when I found the body of my father
and shattered like the windows had just before
The distant cries of broken families
Will they ever regain hope or shall they grief until their deaths?
The cloudless sky had turned to black
A shadow cast over the noble sun
So many lives in fear, pain and grief
The horrors and the cruelties of war
I clench my fists and scream..
The memories are engraved in my mind
The swollen faces, the melting skin and exposing flesh
Never will I recover from that sight..
I remember that morning when the siren rang
The cloudless sky could not predict such tragedy
The summer sun, nothing compared to the heat
that would put our nation in great calamity
That day thousands of us have died
and part of those who lived have died inside
The aftermath of the bombs has left its scars
Engraved in our minds, for all eternity..
That day the dark crept upon our land
Too many lives have paid the price of war
A darkness cast over the virtuous sun
The cruelty of war
The swollen faces, the melting skin and exposing flesh
Never will I truly recover from that sight
Is this the apocalypse, the world’s demise
or just our nation’s?
This great calamity
